Leveling Up

Been working on assembling more levels, gettin' some good progress done! Right now, most of our updates have been posted on YouTube, we'll probably use this forum for information that is more technical or otherwise less suited to the YT format. Latest post with gameplay footage and some commentary below:

Watchout World! I'm saying Hello

Just a quick introduction, my name is Ray. I'm the programmer for Carnage Insurance Policy. We have been working for almost a year now (sometimes not so much). But now things are starting to really pick up, although there is still quite a road ahead of us. I hope to start blogging more either about programming challenges I am facing or my thoughts on successful game development. With the lack of experience we'll have to undergo a lot of trial and error. Keeping track of development status would help us in our next project.

Don't have much to go on right now. Just a quick word of advice for any future novice game developers out there. Should you choose to make a game or any other programming endeavor, make sure you plan out the foundations of your work. A lot of work sorting to code I'm doing now, could definitely be avoided if I had a clear idea of what was needed to be done before I started. Obviously its hard to foresee everything, but in the case of game development, having a solid game design laid out before starting to program will make life much easier for the entire team.
Thats all for now, till next time, Ray

Sample Screens from 1st Level

Hi everyone, been quite awhile since we've updated on the blog, but everyone's been working hard on the project.  Below are a few environment screens (sans any sprites/HUD/UI etc.) from the first level for your enjoyment.  I'll start posting more graphical updates soon, i.e. screenshots from levels like the below and possibly some animated enemies as well.

Thanks for following, and take care!

Some Thingies

Finished all the levels yesterday... a bit later than I thought, but they're done.  Also, messed around with the blog/logo designs for awhile, finally settled on this one.

Updates

A brief summary of what's been going on:

  1. I should be done with the level backgrounds as of today. Next up, completing the animation library.
  2. Trailer should be up within the week.
  3. Programming--we're currently working on tweaking AI, and making a good blood splatter spawning.
  4. We got the vocals for our end credits rap song!
A bit of information about the song... Leath produced the beat for us in-house, and the vocals were written and recorded by artist DecaGon. He was awesome to work with, very professional about everything. If you guys have a chance, take a look at his stuff...

Myspace:

iTunes:
"DecaGon AKA -Gon" (he's also featured on two of Nichelle Colvin's tracks as "Decagon")

We're really excited about the song, and you guys should get to hear a snippet of it in the upcoming trailer. Thanks for all your support!

Edit:
Also, we're hoping to look at some kind of an alpha build by Feb. 4th.
